The Rythm of Champions was RTM's effort to introduce new band champions into the local music industry. Unlike the previous competition which was opened to professional bands, bands under labels or with albums of their own, the 2006 series was opened only to amateurs... or the Kenduri Kahwin type of bands. The prize money for the champion was also halfed to RM50,000 as against the previous event's. All bands were required to present the "Era 60'an" song as the opening song. The second song is left to every band's choice.
FENOMENA of Selangor emerged champion, KUMPULAN LOVE MACHINE from Kedah as first runner up and KUMPULAN MATTA from Negeri Sembilan as second runner up.
The event was held at the Melawati Stadium Shah Alam. All the floor seats were taken up and three quarter of the ring sides were also filled with ardent supporters of the various bands. It was a pleasant surprise for the organiser since the event clashed with AF4 and KRU Mega Concert at the Padang Merbuk. It turned out KRU Concert only managed to attract less than 1,000 audience, even though it was free.
